Microwave maintenance

Microwave maintenance should stay outside the cabinet. Keep the cooking cavity and door area clean, use suitable cookware, and stop when there is damage, arcing, or a door problem.

Keep the cooking cavity clean

  • Wipe food splatter and grease after the microwave is cool. Heavy residue can smoke, burn, or contribute to arcing.
  • Use a non-abrasive cleaning method approved by the manufacturer. Do not flood seams, vents, control openings, or the waveguide-cover area with liquid.

Clean the door and latch area gently

  • Remove residue from the surfaces where the door closes so food buildup does not interfere with closure.
  • Do not bend, file, force, or alter the latch, hinges, or door. If the door does not close squarely or is damaged, stop using the microwave and arrange service.

Check the turntable and cookware

  • Clean and reinstall the glass tray, support, and roller ring in the orientation shown by the manual.
  • Use only microwave-safe cookware. Metal trim, foil, twist ties, or unsuitable dishes can cause arcing or damage.

Never remove the cabinet for maintenance

  • A microwave can contain hazardous high-voltage components even after unplugging. Cabinet removal and internal component cleaning are service work.
  • Stop use for repeated arcing, burning smell, smoke, a damaged cord, a door that will not close correctly, or unexplained electrical trips.
