Cleaning and care

Appliance maintenance guides

Routine maintenance can prevent avoidable drainage, airflow, odor, cooling, and performance problems. Start with the appliance, then use the manual for model-specific access and intervals.

A practical ownership rhythm

Five maintenance habits worth remembering

These are broad owner-level habits, not a replacement for the exact model manual.

Every dryer loadClean the lint filter before or after each load. Reduced airflow can lengthen drying time and contribute to overheating risk.
When you see residue or a spillClean accessible food, detergent, grease, lint, or moisture before buildup becomes harder to remove. Use only cleaners approved for the surface.
When performance changesCheck the owner-accessible filter, vent, hose, seal, drain area, or airflow path identified in the manual before assuming a component has failed.
Keep cold food coldUse a refrigerator thermometer if needed. FDA guidance says the refrigerator should stay at 40°F (4°C) or below and the freezer at 0°F (-18°C).
At least yearly for the dryer ventU.S. Fire Administration guidance recommends cleaning dryer vent ductwork every year. Stop and investigate sooner if drying time increases or airflow is weak.

Maintenance is model-specific more often than it looks

Filter locations, self-clean functions, condenser access, washer pump filters, dryer vent requirements, and approved cleaners can differ by model. These guides cover the safe general routine, then point back to the manufacturer manual where access or frequency matters.
