Washing machine maintenance

A clean washer is less likely to develop residue, musty odors, slow draining, or avoidable load problems. The exact cleaning cycle and filter access depend on the model.

After loads and routine cleaning

  • Some front-load washers have an owner-accessible pump or debris filter; many top-load designs do not. Confirm your model before opening any access door.
  • Inspect visible inlet hoses for bulges, cracking, corrosion at fittings, or active leaks. Do not keep using a visibly damaged hose.
  • Make sure the drain hose remains positioned according to the installation instructions and is not sharply kinked or crushed.

Watch for changes that need troubleshooting

  • New drain delays, repeated imbalance, water under the machine, burning odor, repeated breaker trips, or a persistent error code are not routine cleaning issues.
